Terms of Service
The rules for using Koppar, the studio, the free tools and the agent API, written to be read. Koppar is free today and takes no payment.
These terms apply when you use Koppar: the website at koppar.ai, the studio at app.koppar.ai, the tools at tools.koppar.ai, the documentation, and the agent interfaces (MCP, REST API and command-line tool). Together they are “the service”. “Koppar”, “we” and “us” mean the operator of Koppar; “you” means the person using the service, or the organisation you act for. By creating an account or using the service you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the service. Questions: hello@koppar.ai.
How we handle personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
1. Koppar is free, and we take no payment
The service is provided free of charge. We do not sell anything, take no card, send no invoice and accept no payment of any kind. Nothing you do on the service creates an obligation to pay us.
Every account gets a free allowance of designs run on our model accounts (three today). After that you can keep working with your own model provider key, which the provider bills to you directly, or through the agent interfaces. We may change the allowance and other usage limits.
The pricing shown on the website describes plans we intend to open in the future. It is not an offer, and you cannot buy any of it today. If we open paid plans, they will come with their own terms, and you will be asked to accept those terms explicitly before anything is charged. Pilots we agree with you are free as well.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 16 to use Koppar. If you are under 18, you need the agreement of a parent or guardian.
- You sign in with Google or with a link sent to your email. Keep access to that email secure: whoever controls it controls your account.
- One person per account. Do not share your account, and do not open accounts to multiply the free allowance.
- API keys you create act as your account. Keep them secret, revoke a key you think is exposed, and you are responsible for what is done with your keys.
- You can stop using Koppar at any time. To have your account and its data deleted, write to hello@koppar.ai (see the Privacy Policy).
3. Your content and what you get
“Your content” means what you put in, such as descriptions, chat messages, board files, netlists and design rules, together with what the service produces for you from it: schematics, boards, bills of materials, fabrication files and reports.
- You own your content. As far as we hold any rights in the files the service produces for you, we assign them to you. You may use, modify, sell and manufacture your designs without asking us.
- What we need from you. You give us permission to store, process, copy and transmit your content only as far as needed to run the service for you. That covers sending it to the model provider that runs your design, to our servers, and to a manufacturer when you ask us to. This permission ends when your content is deleted.
- We do not train on your designs. We do not put your content into a training set, a benchmark, a public gallery or our marketing without asking you first. We may look at a design that failed, or that you asked about, to fix the problem or to answer you. How the model providers handle what we send them is described in the Privacy Policy.
- Library parts keep their licences. Symbols, footprints and 3D models from the KiCad libraries and other sources stay under their own licences, which allow their use in your designs.
- Make sure you may upload it. You confirm that you have the right to use what you upload, for example a board you send to the routing tools, and that doing so infringes nobody’s rights.
The service itself is ours: the software, the engine, the website, the Koppar name and logo. Except for your content, these terms give you no rights in it.
4. Check a design before you build it
Koppar is built to produce boards that work, and a board is released only when KiCad’s electrical and design-rule checks pass with every net connected. Even so, the schematics, boards, part choices, prices and reports are generated by AI models and automated engines, and they can be wrong. The checks confirm that the board matches its schematic and the manufacturing rules it was given. They cannot know your application: the loads, the environment, the safety margins, or the standards your product has to meet.
Before you manufacture, sell or power a design, have it reviewed by someone qualified to judge it. You decide what to build, and you are responsible for it.
Do not use Koppar’s output, without independent engineering review, testing and any certification the law requires, in:
- medical devices, life support, or anything a person’s safety depends on;
- vehicles, aircraft, nuclear installations or safety systems;
- mains-powered or high-voltage equipment, or high-energy battery packs;
- weapons.
Koppar does not certify products. If you place a product on the market, you are its manufacturer under the law that applies to you, including CE marking, electromagnetic compatibility and product safety rules in the European Union.
5. Manufacturers and other services
When you choose a manufacturer (such as AISLER, PCBWay or JLCPCB), Koppar only prepares your files and, when you confirm, hands them over or opens the manufacturer’s site. Your order is a contract between you and that manufacturer, under its terms and its privacy policy, and is paid to it directly. Quotes and part prices shown in Koppar come from those providers, are indicative, and can change. We are not responsible for a manufacturer’s prices, delivery, quality, customs or service.
If you use your own model provider key, your use of that provider is under its terms and is billed to you by the provider.
6. Acceptable use
Do not use Koppar to:
- break the law, or design anything whose purpose is to harm people;
- design weapons, or goods controlled for military use, or breach export control or sanctions rules, including the EU dual-use regulation (EU 2021/821), EU sanctions and, where they apply to you, US export rules;
- upload content you have no right to, or malware;
- get around usage limits, rate limits or access controls, for example with many accounts or rotating addresses;
- overload, probe or attack the service, or scrape it in bulk;
- copy or resell the service, or use it to build a competing product.
We may limit, suspend or close an account, or block access to the tools, if it is used in breach of these terms or puts the service or other users at risk. Where it is reasonable, we tell you first and explain why.
7. Availability and changes to the service
Koppar is young and changes often. We may add, change or remove features, change limits, or pause the service for maintenance. Files sent to the free tools are deleted after 24 hours, so download your results. Keep your own copies of anything that matters to you.
If we decide to shut Koppar down, we will email account holders at least 30 days ahead so they can download their designs.
8. Warranty
Because the service is free and experimental, it is provided “as is” and “as available”, without any warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose, as far as the law allows. This does not affect the rights the law gives consumers and that a contract cannot remove.
9. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or wilful misconduct, for gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.
Within those limits, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable loss, for lost profit, revenue or data, or for the cost of boards, parts or products made from a design. Our total liability for anything connected with the service is limited to €100. If you are a consumer, this paragraph applies only as far as the law where you live allows.
If you use Koppar for a business, you will cover our reasonable costs from claims by others caused by content you uploaded without the right to, or by your breach of section 6.
10. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will email account holders at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and post the new version here with its date. If you do not accept the change, you can close your account before it takes effect. Small corrections take effect when posted.
11. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer living in the European Union, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim before its courts. For anyone else, the courts of Paris, France, have jurisdiction.
If something goes wrong, write to hello@koppar.ai first; most problems are solved faster that way.
12. Everything else
If a clause of these terms is found invalid, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a clause straight away, we have not given it up. You may not transfer these terms to someone else without our agreement. We may transfer them to whoever takes over running Koppar, and we will tell you if we do.
The English version of these terms is the reference version.
