Hello from Koppar
Koppar turns a plain-English description into a KiCad schematic, a placed and routed board, a priced bill of materials and Gerbers. This is where we will write about it.
Koppar is an AI PCB design tool that goes all the way. You describe a circuit in plain English. Koppar designs the schematic with real library parts, places and routes the board, runs KiCad’s design-rule check and connectivity check, prices every line of the bill of materials from live distributor stock, and exports Gerbers. The fab files come out only when KiCad reports zero DRC errors and every net connected. A board that fails that gate is reported as failed, never as done.
Everything you get back is standard KiCad: a .kicad_sch, a .kicad_pcb and a .kicad_pro you can open, inspect and change.
What this blog is for
Short, dated notes on three things:
- What we are shipping. New capabilities in the studio, the free tools at tools.koppar.ai and the agent interfaces, as they land.
- What we have measured. Our routing is scored by
kicad-clion professionally routed open-hardware boards, never by the engine itself. When we publish numbers, they come with the date, the referee version, the metric and the boards. - KiCad and PCB design in practice. Things we learn making boards that a fab will accept: design rules, via choices, what a DRC report is really telling you.
Where to start
- The docs cover the studio, the MCP server, the CLI and the REST API, so your own agent can drive the whole pipeline.
- The studio is open: describe a circuit and your first three designs are free.
Subscribe with the RSS feed if you want the posts as they come.
